Mozart & Tchaikovsky
Heartfelt reunion with Urbański
Conductor: Krzysztof Urbański
Soloist, piano: Dejan Lazić
Program
Witold Lutosławski: Little Suite (1951)
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Piano Concerto in C major, No. 21
Pyotr Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 in A minor, "The Tragic"
Urbański is back with a concert program for the romantics among us. Not only will Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 be played with the beautiful Elvira Madigan movement, but Tchaikovsky's dramatic Pathetique Symphony crowns the evening's conclusion.
The evening's opening piece is Lutosławski's Mala suita (Little Suite), which with its infectious energy and themes from popular Polish folk melodies and folk dances has been a great success.
The soloist in Mozart's virtuoso concerto is Dejan Lazić, who will probably play this popular concerto with both nerve and tenderness. In addition, he has composed the cadenzas and openings himself, thus adding a tasteful, exciting and well-balanced personal touch.
Tchaikovsky himself said of his Sixth Symphony that “this is the best I have ever written”, and it is an energetic and self-confident work, yet full of emotion, both longing, hope and melancholy.
