A musical journey from snowflakes in the cool north to grains of sand in the fiery south. Tonight's concert takes place on the outskirts. Asheim's piece Muohta - The language of snow deals with 18 Sami words for snow; the first light snowflakes before snowfall, snow that is so deep that you have to wade to get through, snow pits where grouse or other animals sleep. A quiet piece, as if depicting a frozen landscape.
The road is long, both geographically and in time, to The Mission and music from 16th century South America. The starting point is manuscripts found in Bolivian churches from the time when the Spaniards tried to Christianize the Indians in South America. Here, European baroque music is mixed with Native American folk music and Latin rhythms, and the result is exciting, bubbly, refreshing and life-affirming.
