WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE - The greatest love story of them all.
Love can make you risk everything you are and everything you have. Just ask Romeo and Juliet. They are young. They are in love with the storm. And like all young people, they are immortal. But their love is forbidden. One night is all they get.
William Shakespeare's love story from the end of the 16th century has become an inspiration for almost all stories we know about young and impossible love in television, film, books and theater. When the Riksteatret and the National Theater come together to play original history, it is with a large ensemble and seen in the scene of one of Norway's most sought after directors.
Sigrid Strøm Reibo (36) is known for making the classics accessible to a large audience. She is behind award-winning theater productions such as Triple Hedda-winning Orlando at Rogaland Theater, As you will with Bertine Zetlitz at the National Theater and audience favourite Peer Gynt at Gålå. We know that she will give us a young and fresh version of Romeo and Juliet - true to the original, and faithless to anyone who thinks they know history!
Following the premiere of the National Theater's main stage, Romeo and Juliet will visit 50 cities with the National Theater in the entire country. With young lovers Hanna-Maria Grønneberg and Herbert Nordrum as Romeo and Juliet and shoe players such as Anne Krigsvoll, Eindride Eidsvold and Petronella Barker in a large ensemble on stage, we welcome you to the autumn's big event at the Riksteatret!
