Naustet Viseklubb: Marja Mortensson

The nomadic art project SALT aims to bring art, music, food and architecture together in unprecedented surroundings: four wooden constructions inspired by the traditional Norwegian racks for drying fish. The constructions are located at the harbour vis-a-vis the Opera.
On Tuesdays, SALT hosts concerts with talented Scandinavian singer-songwriters.

7 November: Marja Mortensson
Marja Mortensson has been looking for and collecting old yoik songs from the Southern- and Ume-Sami regions for over a year. The yoiks, traditional songs of the Sami people, have inspired her to preserve the cultural record and to create new yoiks herself.
Yoik has been almost forgotten in the Southern-Sami region, since it has seldom been passed one between the generations. This concerts presents the old yoiks once again to give them new life and open up the potential for new development.
ogether with the musicians Daniel Herskadal (tuba) and Jakop Janssønn (percussion), Marja Mortensson has developed a soulful sound that does the Southern-Sami music tradition justice, through love, liberation and renewal.
