In 1016, one of the greatest sea battles in Norwegian history took place just outside the coast of Brunlanes, in Larvik, Vestfold; Battle of Nesjar. On one side the great viking legend Olav II Haraldsson, later known as St. Olaf. His opponents, Erling Skjalgsson, Svein Håkonarson and Einar Tambarskjelve, came from the west.

The fleets clashed off the coast on Palm Sunday 25 March 1016. It is generally regarded as a fierce battle with heavy casualties. Svein Håkonarson was chased off, thus relinquishing his grip on power. The road now seemed open for King Olav to establish a unified rule of Norway, and give Christianity the upper hand.

Nesjar Theater has created an outdoorplay based on this history. With 40 actors, live music, dance, costumes, horses and vikingships, the play was a huge success in 2016. Now a new production is ready in June 2018.

The script is about the people living in "Nesjar" 1000 years ago; live-acting, slavery, love, betrayal - and of course what happens when King Olav and his men arrive. We also meet the conflict between the old and the new faith. What will Tor and Odin say when the gydjas have to cleanse the cult tree?

Welcome to a magical experience in Helgeroa a summer night in June!

Script: Anita Baann Hovd
Music: Guttorm Guttormsen
Director: Tom Berge Hansen
