The theatre company New International Encounter visits Vega Scene with the performance Hanna & Heinz
Hanna from Norway married a German soldier during WW2. After the war, she was sent out of the country and her citizenship was taken away. She ends up in East Germany, and when the Berlin wall falls, her hopes of returning to her home country diminish.
No country in Europe punished their war brides as hard as Norway. The story about Hanna and Heinz is a tale about a woman who never gave up; she was born in Norway, and insisted on her right to return. It took her almost 60 years.
With this true story as their starting point, New International Encounter (NIE) has created a performance filled with music, humour and vitality.
Hanna og Heinz is a play about survival, love, loss and identity and hope. It is also a tale about the fight for justice, that raises the question of how much we are willing to endure for true love.
New International Encounter consists of stage artists from different European countries and artistic traditions. DIfferent languages are used actively to highlight opposites, misunderstanding and confusions in the performances. The company employs music, sounds, slapstick, tragedy, puppets and song to create a living theatre.
