The Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony takes place every year 10 December, the date on which Alfred Nobel died in 1896.
The winner of the 2016 Nobel peace Prize is Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos "for his resolute efforts to bring the country’s more than 50-year-long civil war to an end".
Nobel Peace Prize programme highlights
9 December: The year's laureate, who is decided upon by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in October, gives a press conference at the Norwegian Nobel Institute
10 December at 1 pm: The Peace Prize Ceremony takes place in Oslo City Hall, and is the highlight of the programme. The laureate delivers his or her Nobel Peace Lecture. Attendance by invitation only.
10 December in the evening: Torchlight parade in honour of the laureate, who greets the parade from the balcony at Grand Hotel.
11 December: Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Telenor Arena with Norwegian and international artists performing in honour of the laureate.
