World premieres on extraordinary popes and a Greek mystery cult.
A dead pope in the dock, a pope who gave birth during a church procession and the Vatican’s secret store of penises from castrated statues constitute the basis of Cecilie Ore’s Vatican Trilogy. This choral work in three parts is premiered by the six singers in Nordic Voices. The a cappella group is known for combining top-notch music with stylish rendering and a good dose of humour.
‘It’s just as exciting every time I work with Nordic Voices. They have a unique ability to throw themselves into new material and new challenges,’ she says.
Nordic Voices joins forces with the saxophone quartet NoXaS for the second premiere of the evening, Six Orphic Amulets by Bergen composer Ørjan Matre. The work uses text fragments from tiny antique plates of gold and bone stemming from a Greek mystery cult.
The new works by Ore and Matre stand alongside Baroque music played on the saxophone. NoXaS has for over ten years established itself as an ensemble of high quality with a particular wealth of timbre and masterful interpretations.
