Norwegian Radio Orchestra with Sandro Nebieridze

Some pieces of music get something iconic, either by the magical attraction they have in themselves, or by myths and stories being spun around them. Both are probably the case with Sergei Rakhmaninov's third piano concerto. Notorious for its almost superhuman claim to virtuosity, and with its obsessive expressive power.

One who masters it all is the very young pianist Sandro Nebieridze from Georgia (b. 2001). He has won a number of awards in piano competitions, and has received great international attention for his interpretations, especially of Russian music. He is also, like chief conductor Popelka, a composer and has already written a piano concerto himself. In other words, he is a phenomenon that should be experienced.

The piano concerto is complemented by romantic music from one of Wagner's operas, and by Franz Liszt, the creator of the symphonic poem.

Franz Liszt: The Preludes
Sergei Rakhmaninov: Piano Concerto No. 3, Op. 30, in D minor
Richard Wagner: Ouverture and Venusberg music from Tannhäuser

Conductor: Petr Popelka
