Overview

That an orchestra needs a conductor is beyond any doubt, but Norwegia Radio Orchestra has on several occasions tested how far one can go in playing complex symphonic works led by Kolbjørn Holthe from concertmaster place. Now another of KORK's talented concert masters enters the role of playing leader. Jon Gjesme will lead a program that is characterized by a colorful orchestral sound.

As a soloist, KORK has brought along August Schieldrop who has distinguished himself as one of our foremost tuba players, and who also won Equinor's major talent scholarship in 2021. August plays a work originally for bassoon, but here in full orchestra width and with the tuba in front.

Programme
Johann Strauss dy: Ouverture til Flaggermusen
Georg Philipp Telemann / arr: Knut Johannessen: Bassoon Sonata in F minor (arranged for tuba)
Antonin Dvorák: Slavic Dancers, Op 46 No. 8 and Op. 72 No. 2
Richard Wagner: Ouverture til Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg
Johannes Brahms: Hungarian Dance Nos. 1 and 5
Johan Svendsen: Carnival in Paris

Jon Gjesme, leader
August Schieldrop, tuba
