“It’s not often that a school is referred to as ‘a fairy tale’. But Norway’s own magical educational institution does exist. The Hogwarts of music is located in Trondheim and is called Jazzlinja.” This was written by NRK in March 2024, and it should be known to most people that many a jazz legend and pop star has come out of the “miracle school” in Trondheim. So what about what’s happening in the rehearsal rooms right now? Here’s the perfect opportunity to get to know many of those who will come to shape the music scene in the Nordic region in the coming decades.

NTNU Jazz Ensemble “Playing Itself” is an annual happening where graduating students have been commissioned to write music for the ensemble, which for the occasion consists of first-year students. The composers have set the bar sky-high, and the performers have taken on the challenge with open arms. This year's composers are: Kertu Aer, Mikkel Dahl Amundsen, Elias Baadsvik, Børge Tandberg Brustad, Jørgen Fiske, Åsne Fossmark, Hannah Furberg, Amelia Gomez Snerte, Selma Granly, Isak Hungnes, Tarald Kongshaug, Skage Rollheim Larsen, Johannes Lykkås, Sondre Moshagen and Inga Mei Steinbru.

Their music is performed by: Julie Horn (vocals), Edvard Kildahl Andersen (vocals), Móeiður Loftsdóttir (trumpet, Ingrid Narum (sax), Andrea Schnell Husby (sax), Lars Viljo Fauske (violin), Leo Hartman (guitar), Nikolai Hansli (piano), Hedda Örnsten (piano), August Bergvall (bass), Jacob Tjernström (bass), Nils Eils Johu Comémn (drums), Ole Mathias C. Haagenrud (drums).

This is the backdrop for this evening's concert with the NTNU Jazz Ensemble "Spiller seg selv". Come and experience fresh produce!

Ticket price 150,- (ordinary) / 50,- (student), and free for employees and students at the Department of Music.
