Octet Consonances
Dokkhuset Scene and Trondheim Jazzforum present Consonances Octet!
Consonances Octet was created by composer and trumpeter Peter Wallem Anundsen with a desire to unite fragile harmonic sounds from modern classical contemporary music with the spontaneity and improvisational art of jazz.
At this point of intersection unfolds a soundscape of chamber music coloring and inner constellations where the individual character of each individual musician shapes the ensemble's sound. Composers such as Olivier Messiaen, Jimmy Giuffre, Caroline Shaw, Anna Webber and Erik Hove are central sources of inspiration, and the ensemble draws expressions from their compositional styles into its music.
The album Where Is Direction? with Consonances Octet will be released on Sonic Transmissions Records on 11 October and is Peter Wallem Anundsen's debut as a band leader. The compositions presented on the album explore Anundsen's own approach to atonality, bi-harmonics and dissonance, which are tied in natural and subtle ways together with traditional harmonic and melodic expressions.
The title of the record is an invitation into the unpredictable tonal landscapes that many of the compositions seek out, and challenges the listener to hear consonance and dissonance in new ways.
