Ole Paus

Ole Paus is almost scarily prolific: it is hardly possible to single out everything that deserves attention in a career spanning over 50 years, including thirty-some record releases, books, theatre, film, an opera libretto, the Paus posten, lyricist for others, such as Sissel's "Innerst i Sjelen" and Jonas Fjeld's "Angels in the Snow".

Ole Paus has probably never lived up to the title of national hero, for that he has made too much noise and commotion over the past forty-odd years as an artist, poet and writer. He has slapped us across the fingers at every approach to self-satisfaction ever since his debut "Der ute - der inne" in 1970, and the sequel, the classic "Garman" two years later.

When Paus plays a concert, it is not easy to pick a representative cross-section either. But whether it's about wife-beating on an IKEA sofa, marches and parades, whether things were better during the war, or mothers who are or are not "a cow", that's not necessarily the point of an entire evening with him: It's the mediator Ole Paus we buy a ticket to experience.
