Few musicians have brought the Cuban musical heritage into more challenging and multi-faceted landscapes than multi instrumentalist Omar Sosa. He started out on marimba and percussion, but then move on to key instruments. Sosa has also explored African music, free improv, classical music and things that borders on ambient - among many other things.
At Oslo World 2018, Sosa will team up with Swiss-Cuban Yilian Cañizares. She started her musical career with classical studies in Cuva and thought for a long time that she would pursue this tradition, but after moving to Switzerland and experiencing the music of the great French violinist Stephane Grappelli, among other things, she made a turn towards jazz. There she found a place for her distinctive voice. She sings both in Yoruba, Spanish and French - often in unison or harmony with her violin play.
Omar Sosa – piano, Yilian Cañizares – vocals, violin, Gustavo Ovalles – percussion
