Only Connect - what could be a more appropriate description of this concert?
The research projects Love your Latency (UiA) and Poetics of Space (NTNU) both deal with music and sound in different spaces, and here it is the digital space and interaction over the internet that are explored. In the first part of this concert we are presented with a world premiere of the Norwegian composer Lene Grenager, where students from the jazz program at NTNU - Department of Music, the Norwegian Academy of Music and the University of Agder play together in three different cities at the same time. This piece is an exploration of what artistic possibilities the digital space can give us.
Part two is a meeting between the NTNU jazz ensemble and the music of composers Anthony Braxton and George E. Lewis under the direction of Michael Duch, who is a professor at the Department of Music. Braxton and Lewis are both from Chicago and known as pioneering performers, composers and researchers within American experimental music, and not least as bridge builders between contemporary classical music and jazz. Here we will also meet the Australian pianist and conductor Mark Knoop, who is considered one of the foremost performers in experimental contemporary music today.
Program
Lene Grenager – Intermittent connections: for three separate ensembles in three different spaces and zoom connection (2025) world premiere!
George Lewis – Shadowgraph V (1977)
Anthony Braxton - Ghost Trance Music (1995-2006)
NTNU jazz ensemble under the direction of Michael Duch and Mark Knoop.
Ticket price: 120,- (free for students)
Only Connect Trondheim 2025 is supported by:
Norsk Kulturfond, Rosendal Teater, Trondheim Municipality, Trøndelag County Municipality, Balansekunst, DansiT, NTNU/Institute of Music, nyMusikk and Norwegian Composers' Association
