Opera Orchestra's Chamber Series: Bassoonmania

Bassoon concert - with free coffee and a bun during the break

With this concert, musicians from the Opera Orchestra want to convey this expressive instrument, both with the ensemble and with soloist Catharina Chen.

The woodwind instrument bassoon is no small instrument, it is approx. 1.3 meters, and has a tonal range that extends over three and a half octaves. Bassoonists often make and adapt their own reeds, which must be cut to shape and tied up in a damp state. They must then be polished and adjusted - so that they suit each musician's playing style and wishes.

The program includes Brahms' Haydn Variations, Montis Czardas and works from the operatic literature arranged for four and five bassoons and contrabassoon.
