Get ready for a November evening like no other!

A five-hour performance inspired by the Cold War operation "Operation Asphalt" after the Second World War, and the human stories weighed against the fear of Russian espionage.
"Codename: Operation Asphalt", premiering on 2 November 2024, not only explores historical facts, but gives life to the bonds that were formed between people in a time characterized by resistance and rescue. The performance creates a vivid image of standing together in the face of challenges and injustice.
It is a story about human destinies. The fate of those who were captured on the Eastern Front, sent north to build Hitler's Norway and die. It is the story of the bereaved who are left wondering why their near and dear ones never came home. It is the story of those who worked during the operation in 1951. Those who were on the boats. Those who helped dig up the remains. Those who worked at Tjøtta to dig the large mass graves. And that is the story of Stein Elvestad, and how he got to know Ragnar Selnes and their work to dig into history to track down today's descendants in Russia.
Don't be put off by the length - this is an event with good breaks and time to immerse yourself in the history, share impressions with other guests and enjoy a good meal.

Operation Asphalt
Operation Asphalt was the name of an operation which involved moving the remains of Soviet prisoners of war to a joint war grave at Tjøtta on the Helgeland coast.
Around 13,000 Soviet prisoners of war died in Norway during the Second World War. Originally they were buried in many different places, but in 1951 the Norwegian authorities decided that all should be moved to Tjøtta. The move occurred during the Cold War, and the main motivation was fear of Russian espionage
