Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra - Film concert/ Amadeus
In the film classic Amadeus, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's turbulent life is interwoven with his music. Ernst van Tiel conducts the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Oslo Philharmonic Choir, who perform the music live on stage to the film on the screen.
Nobody knows for sure what Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) died of. It was a perfect starting point for a myriad of theories about the cause of death in the years that followed. The most piquant rumour was that a jealous fellow composer was behind it - Antonio Salieri (1750-1825).
The theory wasn't particularly plausible, but it was an even better story. Alexander Pushkin wrote a play based on the rumours, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov wrote an opera. And in 1984, Milos Forman released the musical film Amadeus, which became a huge success and won eight Oscars.
Amadeus is permeated by Mozart's music from start to finish. The dark mood of the frame story with the ageing Salieri is emphasised by Mozart's Symphony No. 25. The conflicted relationship with his father is deepened with scenes from the opera Don Giovanni.
A key element in the story is Mozart's Requiem, which he did not manage to complete before his death. In the film, Salieri is the secretive patron who drives Mozart to his death. Amadeus is an irresistible blend of fiction and reality, of great cinema and music.
Amadeus Live is a production of Avex Classics International.
