Welcome to the first of this year's five concerts in collaboration with the Oslo Philharmonic!
Love, longing and passion – in this programme, strong emotions are expressed through the music of Janáček and Mendelssohn. These are two composers from different countries, cultures and eras, both of whom communicate powerfully through the universal language of music.

Janáček's string quartet, nicknamed Intimate Letters, is often performed in arrangements for full string orchestra due to its expressive musical format and content. In this programme, you get an exclusive experience of the quartet's original version, with a viola d'amore as viola – an instrument Janáček had a particular fondness for. You'll also hear Mendelssohn's energetic, beautiful String Quintet in Bb major, one of the works where he really takes you into the expressive, romantic tonal language that would characterise the rest of his output.

Musicians:
Leah Tagami Andonov - violin
Kathrin Dalnoki - violin
Bénédicte Royer - viola & viola d'amore
Andrés Maurette O´Brien - viola
Katharina Hager-Saltnes - cello

Programme:
Leoš Janáček (1854-1928): String quartet no. 2 'Intime brev' (1928)
Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847): String quintet no. 2 in Bb major, op. 87
