Oslo World: Javid / Huse / Færden - URsang

Overview

An unexpected meeting in a unique soundspace.

Fusion of different elements is a keyword for a lot of the music presented at Oslo World, and no place in Oslo underlines this quality in a more explicit way than Emmanuel Vigelands Mausoleum, which has become a cult scene, with its distinct, almost endless reverb. When Javid Afsari Rad, Tuva Færden and Eira Huse tries to find common ground between the persian santur, the norwegian harding fiddle and a classical mezzo soprano, it is hard to imagine a more fitting setting than Vigelands burlesque, sonorous darkness. The musicians come from different places, but they share a borderless curiosity and a love of different musical textures and the possibilities they contain.

Javid Afsari Rad is a unique presence in Norwegian music. He studied classical persian music in Iran, and his main instrument is the dulcimer-like santur. With bands like Javid Afsari Rad Ensemble, Rumi Ensemble and Norwegian World Orchestra, he connects expressions from Iran, India, Morocco and Norway. Harding fiddle player Tuva Færden comes from Norwegian folk music, but has also traveled to India where she studied with Dr. Karaikudi Subramaniam and Sharat Chandra Srivastava, which has left marks on her music. Mezzo-soprano and composer Eira Huse has performed at opera houses like Opéra de Lyon, The Norwegian Opera og Royal Opera House Muscat. She curates the newly started concert series Ekho, which explores the possibilities of different genres and instruments when performed in Emanuel Vigelands Mausoleum.
