Our grandparents' kitchen
This course is part of the official program for the Trøndelag Food Festival 2025.
Welcome to a tasty and useful journey into the history – and future – of Norwegian cuisine. Sustainability, preparedness and genuine food enjoyment from the past!
How did our grandparents take care of their food – and what can we learn from it today? In a time when sustainability and preparedness are more important than ever, we invite you to a course that takes you back to your roots.
Our Grandparents' Kitchen is a course for children, young people, adults and the elderly – anyone who is curious about traditional food, Norwegian ingredients and old techniques for preserving food: pickling, canning, drying and fermentation. We talk about self-sufficiency, food waste and the joy of food – and how this old knowledge is hyper-relevant today.
Through practical examples and good stories, you will learn how we can use these traditions to create security, community and good public health – with a dash of inspiration from the ABC for good mental health. The course is led by Berit Vordal from the National Association for Public Health, an experienced facilitator who is passionate about food, volunteering and public health.
This course is suitable for those who want to:
- Learn more about food traditions and raw material knowledge.
- Be inspired to use more of what you have in your cupboard and garden.
- Discover how old methods give new sustainability
- Take part in a pleasant, educational and meaningful community
