How is public discourse shaped – and who is responsible for ensuring that it remains open, informed and democratic?
At a time when more and more young people are abandoning traditional news sources and distrust of both politicians and the media is growing in some circles, we are faced with important questions:
How do the media and politicians influence each other's roles in democracy?
What happens when young voters cannot find the information they need to make informed choices?
How can we counteract polarization and contribute to a society where real debate and critical thinking are strong?
As a prelude to this autumn's parliamentary elections, we invite young politicians and representatives from editor-controlled media to an engaging conversation about what is needed to achieve the common goal of an informed and robust democracy. They will discuss how they view each other's responsibilities, what creates (or weakens) trust, and how they can together safeguard democratic public discourse.
In the panel you will meet Harald Klungtveit (Filter nyheter), Siv Sandvik (Adresseavisen), Kjersti Eline Stuen (Under Dusken), Lars Brandsås (Venstre), Mats Henriksen (Frp), Oda Okkenhaug (Trønderdebatt) and Gaute Børstad Skjervø (AUF).
Why should YOU come? - Because democracy needs committed young people - and because you deserve to know how the information you receive (or do not receive) affects your choice.
The event is free for everyone, and takes place in Vuelie. Doors open at 18:45. The event at Samfundet can be adapted for visitors with mobility and hearing impairments.
