Potteblått

Overview

17.april åpner en ny utstilling med fokus på Hannah Ryggens store billedtepper i Hannah Ryggen-senteret på Brekstad. Vevkunstnerens bruk av den sagnomsuste fargen potteblå er i fokus, med linjer både bakover til eldre norsk tekstilkunst og fremover til et helt nytt verk av Veslemøy Lilleengen.

Inngang til utstillingen i Hannah Ryggen-senteret er denne gangen helt gratis, og åpningstiden er den samme som Ørland Kultursenter.

Hannah Ryggen (1894–1970) er viden kjent for sin bruk av den eldgamle plantefargingsmetoden som gir potteblått. Hennes ulike blånyanser er fremkalt ved å bade ulltråden i et kar med planten indigo og urin, overvåket over tid for å sikre riktig gjæringstemperatur. Oppskriftene og inspirasjonen lå i tiden, i generasjonen før henne, da kunnskapen om plantefarging hadde blitt gjenopplivet med den såkalte norske vev-renessansen rundt 1900. Forbildene på den tiden var billedteppene vevet av kvinner i dalførene på 1600-tallet. Selv om metoden å farge garnet blått med urin som bindemiddel er internasjonalt utbredt og flere tusen år gammel, var potteblått blant fargene som ble ansett som tradisjonelt norske – med forankring både i den nasjonale tekstilhistorien og naturen selv.

Å bruke naturen rundt seg, og veve den inn i kunsten, var en selvfølge for Hannah Ryggen. Det er ikke mange norske kunstnere som har jobbet med den omstendelige prosessen det er å farge potteblått etter henne. Veslemøy Lilleengen (f. 1975), en kunstner nettopp fra Ørlandet, har imidlertid fordypet seg i dette – og fører tradisjonen videre, samtidig som hun punkterer noen av mytene rundt potteblått.
