Welcome to PRAXIS Workshop with Venla Niitemaa - Sounding and Moving
Saturday 18.10.2025 at 11-3 pm at DansiT, Svartlamon, Strandveien 33, Trondheim.

About the workshop: I'll be sharing my practice around voice and movement. Using my voice in different ways - singing or just making sounds - has become more and more important to me. I'm interested in voice as a continuation of movements already happening inside the body - when we breathe or talk. Together we can explore how using our voice opens up different movement possibilities and pathways in the body.

I use the term "singing" very loosely - it is not connected to a specific style or aesthetic for me. We will go slow in finding the voice, and feeling comfortable with it in the space - aiming for playful, shared, curious and fun times. No previous experience in singing is needed. Please bring your notebook if you keep one :)

This praxis is for all dancers & movers who have experience in dance improvisation. I will follow guidelines for safer spaces, and wish to invite all bodies and abilities welcome to the studio. The workshop will be based on improvisational tasks that can be approached differently, in ways that make sense to each mover! Feel free to send a message to Praxis Trondheim if you would like to know more to decide if the workshop fits your needs and interests.

Bio: Currently studying towards their MA in Dance Performance at Uniarts in Helsinki, Venla Niitemaa is a dance artist based between Norway and Finland. In my artistic practice, I am interested in themes such as care, empathy, and intimacy, and interpersonal relationships. I focus on a queer and feminist perspective, and for me, making queer art is connected to an attempt to dismantle normative ways of looking at bodies. My practice lies at the intersection of creating and performing, and I also work with interdisciplinary projects.
