PUNKT is a jazz/electronica music festival in the city of Kristiansand in the south of Norway. The festival is a concept based on a combination of concerts and concomitant treatment of the music from these concerts in a studio environment, where new music is created during the three days that the festival is in progress.
Daniel Lanois is this year's "artist in residence" at Punkt. A brilliant musician in his own right, and a producer who has contributed significantly to the soundtracks of our lives, including groundbreaking albums by U2, Peter Gabriel, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Jon Hassell, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Robbie Robertson, Neville Brothers, and Michael Brook.
Daniel Lanois (vocals, guitar, steel guitar, electronics) comes to Punkt with Kyle Crane (drums) and Jim Wilson (bass). His main concert is at Kick Scene on Saturday 2 September, where the material will be a mix of songs and instrumentals.
On Friday 1 September, Lanois will give an exclusive music and production masterclass in a band setting, and he'll perform a Live Remix the same evening.
Australian cult trio The Necks is another band that we've wanted to invite to Punkt for a long time. They will perform on Friday 1 September, and so will the magnificent Broen, the young Norwegian band who have won both the audience and inspiration awards at the By:Larm festival, and were recently signed to Simon Raymonde's Bella Union label.
As always, all concerts will be remixed live.
On Thursday 31 August, we'll open this year's festival exhibition in collaboration with Kristiansand Kunsthall, featuring the artists Tori Wrånes, Kristin Evensen, Sandra Mujinga and Henrik Olai Kaarstein. Thursday evening also includes intimate concerts, details will follow.
Further program details will be announced later, but you shouldn't wait too long to get tickets for the Daniel Lanois events. The Festival Pass gives you access to everything, the Friday Day Pass includes Daniel Lanois' daytime masterclass and his Live Remix in the evening, and the Saturday Day Pass includes his main concert, plus of course the other concerts and remixes that evening.
