Myllarguten and Beethoven.
Pianist Tor Espen Aspaas and Artist in residence Ragnhild Hemsing have collaborated for several years. In the concert in Edvard Grieg's parlour the duo perform the composer's second Violin Sonata and excerpts from Norwegian Peasant Dances and Lyric Pieces alongside dance tunes from Valdres and works by Beethoven and Halvorsen.
Artist in residence Ragnhild Hemsing alternates between the violin and the Hardanger fiddle.
'I like to use the Hardanger fiddle in classical repertoire to demonstrate what an artistic instrument it is. Following the tracks between traditional dance tunes and music by Grieg and other composers is incredibly exciting,' says Hemsing.
Many tunes from Valdres were notated by Lindeman as part of the Norwegian national building in the nineteenth century, and his collections formed the basis of Grieg's work with folk music.
During this intimate festival concert Hemsing and Aspaas will draw out golden threads from the musical heritage of Norway and Europe.
