Overview

New Orleans Workshop Jazzclub presents: Red Hot Mama

A concert which breathes new life into the powerful heritage of Bessie Smith, Alberta Hunter, Sophie Tucker, Victoria Spivey and Memphis Minnie. In the 20's and 30's, women were the big stars of blues. They were the ones to sell records and who attracted people to the vaudeville stage. With strong voices they exclaimed their messages about free will, economic freedom and their vibrant sex lives. Without these women, the future stars of jazz, blues, and rock would lack shoulders to stand on.

Toini Knudtsen - vocals, Daniel Trustrup Røssing - piano, vocals, Arne Ertnæs - bass
