Rindal Wooden Ski Festival: Thor Gotaas - History of Norwegian skiing
From ancient times, ski makers in the villages made skis. At the end of the 19th century, the ski industry emerged and there were around 63 Norwegian ski factories in 1948, spread throughout the country. Thor Gotaas talks about the history of skis and their development from handicraft to large-scale industry.
Thor Gotaas (b.1965) is one of Norway's most skilled communicators, he is a trained folklorist, author of Rindal Ski Museum's book "Sigurd Røen from Rindal - double world champion in skiing in 1937 (2022)" as well as fifty cultural history books on various topics - much about skiing, also about Tatars, sailors and other parts of Norwegian history. We are happy to have Thor back to Rindal Ski Museum during the wooden ski festival in Rindal!
