Serge Aime Coulibaly - Wakatt

Overview

Dance performance at Dansens Hus:

Wakatt means "our time", and the performance shows a struggle where bodies move together towards a common, open future. You meet ten dancers and three musicians on stage in a performance where the music and the dance mutually influence each other. Wakatt moves around the seductive, the beautiful, the things that stand out and are attractive. The backdrop is the fairly common perception of "us" and "them". Wakatt reflects on the fearful world we live in, where nationalism is on the rise in many places. Wakatt takes a closer look at characteristic aspects of the human and what can be called natural instincts. Is it the case that humanity carries within it a natural, hidden violence? Is it natural not to like the unknown? Are humans naturally violent?

With a background from Burkina Faso, the choreographer behind this performance, Sergé Aime Coulibaly, has seen many outbreaks of racially motivated violence. He has established a center for the development of art in his hometown Bobo Dioulasso, and works as an artist in a constant shift between Europe and Africa. Wakatt is developed in Mali, Tunis, Brussels and Burkina Faso.
