SLOVENIAN PHILHARMONIC CHOIR - All Night Vigil (Rakhmaninov)

-Vladimir Putin must not take away Rakhmaninov from us - not the f*ck!! This is world heritage, music that connects us with the good in people, says Ragnar Rasmussen.

The conductor passionately explains why it is only natural to perform Vesper (All-Night Vigil), one of the Russian composer's foremost works, also in 2024.

The opening concert for Olavsfest 2024 in Nidaros Cathedral brings together the powerful Slovenian choir Slovenian Philharmonic Choir and Trondheim's own Nidaros Vokal. Both choirs under the direction of Ragnar Rasmussen. On the program is Rakhmaninov's All-Night Vigil, in addition there will be the world premiere of Henning Sommerro's new work Hellnight Vigil.

-The new and the old meet, and the new is presented in the framework of the old. Part of the point is to link yesterday to today, and build something that looks forward by updating both works and creating a thought the audience can take with them into the summer night, says Rasmussen.

Rakhmaninov's work consists of 15 tidebönn movements, which at this concert are commented on and complemented by Henning Sommerro's music. Sommerros Helnattsvake consists of five movements which are performed individually after every third movement of Rakhmaninov's work. The two choirs will sing two movements together – the last movement of Sommerro's work as well as Vespers' famous Bogoroditse Devo (Ave Maria).
