With references from 60s American free jazz, classical impressionism and Norwegian folk music.
Audio Guide is a new project established by pianist and composer Sondre Moshagen. In the band, he has gathered some of his favorite musicians from the Norwegian jazz and improvisation scene and written new music inspired by program music - music that depicts extra-musical phenomena.
Hans P. Kjorstad - fiddle
Guro Kvåle - trombone
Brede Sørum - alto saxophone
Sondre Moshagen - piano/composition
Nicolas Leirtrø - double bass
Veslemøy Narvesen - drums
Moshagen's compositions explore the relationship between composed and improvised, and draw on references from 60s American free jazz, classical impressionism and Norwegian folk music, among other things. The background for the instrumental composition is a love for the sound of the classic piano trio format, which he wants to expand texturally with fiddle, alto saxophone and trombone. The project was commissioned by Dølajazz in the fall of 2024 as a receipt for the talent award he received the previous year.
In addition to studying at the jazz department in Trondheim, Moshagen is active in various musical projects with a wide range of genres. During this year's Moldejazz, he and his own trio 'Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio' were named young jazz musicians of the year 2024. This year he is also currently a pianist in the renowned 'Gutenberg Jazz Collective' as the first Norwegian musician ever. There he will play with heroes such as Christian McBride, Terri Lyne Carrington, Melissa Aldana and David Virelles.
