Current Exhibition: Solveig Aalberg – "Sediment"
20 February – 24 May 2025
The exhibition at Kunstrom Jakob features a selection of miniature weavings from the Continuum series (2016–2020) alongside new works produced in 2023–2024. The Continuum series explores repetition and displacement—a rhythm that is both recurring and evolving. The latest works, presented under the title Undertones, also follow a repetitive rhythm but with a greater focus on layering and depth.
Solveig Aalberg – Jakob Weidemann Memorial Grant 2024Solveig Aalberg works with hand weaving, deeply exploring colour, texture, and repetition. She employs various materials, including linen, wool, silk, and paper yarn, often dyeing the yarn herself to achieve the desired expression. Her works balance a strict, structured composition with intricate details and are often presented in series.
In 2024, Aalberg was awarded the Jakob Weidemann Memorial Grant, an annual grant supporting artistic practice and dissemination in Steinkjer. The award includes a monetary prize and a solo exhibition at Kunstrom Jakob.
The exhibition at Kunstrom Jakob showcases a selection of mini-weavings from the Continuum series (2016–2020) alongside new large-scale works from Undertones (2023–2024). Both series explore rhythm and repetition, but with different emphases on displacement and layering.
Born in 1955 in Steinkjer, Aalberg graduated from the National Academy of Craft and Art Industry (1983). She has held numerous solo exhibitions in Norway and internationally, including in London, Shanghai, Beijing, Riga, and Kyoto. Her works are part of several art collections, including Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum, Kode, and the Norwegian Arts Council.
