50 years of music from the artists of tomorrow.

The Drop-in concerts have been a staple of the Bergen International Festival programme for half a century. The concert series with students from the Grieg Academy is a dear tradition which provides an opportunity to get to know artists who will influence the Norwegian music scene in years to come. At these daytime performances it's Bergens most skilled music students who take the stage in Spissen in Grieghallen below the iconic light installation.

Professional artists who have given Drop-in concerts include soprano Lise Davidsen, cellist Amalie Stalheim and pianist Kei Solvang.

These short daytime concerts explore a wide selection of music. The programmes are mainly classical, but several of the students choose other genres and styles – from classical works to contemporary music, and even new works composed by the students themselves. The concerts are held in a relaxed setting, where the students and teachers often play together.

The first Drop-in concerts was held in Permanenten on 24 May 1974. The 50th anniversary will be duly marked over three days, with longer performances Thursday 23 May and Friday 24 May. On Saturday 25 May there will be music throughout the afternoon. There may even be some distinguished surprise guests from Drop-in concert's history.

Programme details for all concerts will be available at in May.
