Welcome to the knitting cinema at Kosmorama!
On Friday, March 21st at 11:00 we will be setting up an extra screening of The Day Iceland Stood Still in Prinsen 3 where we will be offering knitting-friendly lighting in the hall. Then you can bring your knitting and enjoy an extra pleasant start to the day at Kosmorama.
Note: At this screening there will only be knitting during the film screening itself. 45 minutes of knitting and socializing before the film is not included in the event, but everyone is welcome to use our festival café in the foyer of Prinsen Cinema Center for socializing before and after the screening!
About the film:
In The Day Iceland Stood Still we gain insight into what happened on October 24, 1975. When 90 percent of Iceland's women quit their jobs to demand gender equality. It paralyzed the entire country.
In the 1970s, Icelandic society was characterized by traditional gender roles, and women had limited rights. They were primarily responsible for housework and childcare, earned less than men for the same work, and only gained access to many benefits through marriage. Inspired by the global women's movement, Icelandic women decided that enough was enough.
Director Pamela Hogan and producer Hrafnhildur Gunnarsdóttir explore the event through archival material, personal stories, and interviews, showing how the action shaped Icelandic society in the years that followed.
