1–4 November, Dansens Hus: A virtuously rhythmic and physical approach to dance
The Oslo-based dance company Tabanka is known for its engaging and rhythmical performances, which encourage movement of both body and soul as well as participation of the audience. The company has a virtuously rhythmic and physical approach to dance that engages the audience. This makes it almost impossible to look away when they take up topics that force us to reflect on our history, culture, lives and ourselves.
In I:OBJECT Tabanka explore the experiences that are engraved into African and Caribbean bodies, experiences of forced and voluntary migration, objectification, being traded as goods, racism, hatred and violence. The dancers do not focus on being a victim, but rather on resistance, power and hope. Dance, song and music have always been tools to bring objects back to life, to make every gesture, laughter, stomping foot powerful and a sign of protest.
Musically, I:OBJECT uses melodious and lyrical compositions and exciting rhythms that refer to the physical and metaphysical drum that urges us to move, get active, make progress.
I:OBJECT addresses highly relevant topics like Black Lives Matter, #metoo, the continuous trade of slaves and human trafficking. The company's motto is "Ancient Power - Modern Use."
The performance is part of the 2018 Oslo World.
