This course is part of the official program for the Trøndelag Food Festival 2025.

Akevitt has a long tradition in Trøndelag that stretches back hundreds of years. Svein Berfjord from Inderøy Brenneri and Ulrik Bjerkeli from ØX Bryggeripub og Destilleri have a strong focus on using local ingredients in their production, and on carrying on the long and proud tradition of akevitt production in Trondheim.

During the course, they will tell you about their productions, the art behind the products and their unique stories. How do they work and what does it take to make an award-winning Trøndersk akevitt?

There will be a tasting of 4 exciting akevitts inspired by and from Trøndelag. Join us for a unique experience at the Trøndersk Matfestival!

About the course leaders:
Svein Berfjord, also known as the 'Akevittbonden', is a distiller at Inderøy Brenneri and Berg farm, which he runs with his wife Kirsti on Inderøy in Trøndelag. He bottled his first akevitt in 2016 and has since had a number of award-winning akevitts.

Ulrik Bjerkeli is the head distiller at ØX and has been instrumental in building up both the brewery and the distillery. Their aquavits are among the best in the country, as proven by a second place in "Norway's Best Drink 2025" for their aquavit "Norwegian aquavit matured in sherry barrels 2024".
