From 21 February, Norwegian Opera & Ballet: Ballet + Stravinsky = perfection
Ballet + Stravinsky = perfection!
A showdown between the Norwegian National Ballet and the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra featuring some of the best music ever written for dance: Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird and The Rite of Spring. Add two strong choreographers with their own signature style, and you have a unique evening of dance.
In 2013, ballet birector at the Norwegian Opera and Ballet, Ingrid Lorentzen, challenged choreographers to create new interpretations of Michel Fokine's iconic ballets. Liam Scarlett responded by transporting the ballet to the fantasy genre with his lavish, dark Firebird. Scarlett tackles the narrative in a classical language that demands technical perfection.
The last time Ina Christel Johannessen created a piece for the Norwegian National Ballet, she filled the stage with three tonnes of earth in Desolating Persephone. The result was brutal, perturbing and fascinating, leaving the audience speechless. The same team is now tackling The Rite of Spring.
