From 14 September, Operaen: A visually captivating Hamlet for our time
A magnificent new version of Hamlet by Alan Lucien Øyen, incorporating dance, theatre and spectacular sets.
Alan Lucien Øyen is one of the most exciting figures in the Norwegian performing arts. He creates dance, theatre and his own scripts. In 2018, he created a new work for Pina Bausch's legendary company, and last time he collaborated with the Norwegian National Ballet the result was the infinitely beautiful ballet Timelapse.
Shakespeare's most frequently performed play has inspired artists such as Goethe, Dickens and James Joyce. Generations of audiences have been fascinated by the drama of Prince Hamlet of Denmark. Philosophers and psychiatrists have interpreted the tragedy in diverse, sometimes groundbreaking ways. Øyen stands of the shoulders of these forerunners in his creation of a visually captivating Hamlet for our time.
Øyen is joined by two heavyweights from the world of film. New music has been written by Henrik Skram, while the conductor and film composer Matt Dunkley will conduct the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra.
