The Real Thing

26 January, Herr Nilsen: Swinging, organ-based soul jazz

After saxophonist Sigurd Køhn passed away in 2004, The Real Thing threw in the towel. But then the band was reunited - with three old and one new member.

The Real Thing was founded in 1992 and soon became a dominating force in Scandinavian Jazz, with swinging, organ-based soul-jazz. During their 12-year career the band played over 1000 concert and sold over 50.000 CDs. Their music is inspired by among others, big names like Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, George Benson and Wes Montgomery. The result is an extroverted mix of swing, blues, latin and funk.

Palle Wagnberg - organ,  Staffan William-Olsson - guitar, Hermund Nygård - drums, Dave Edge - saxophone
