Imagine Torgallmenningen, Bergen’s main square, full of pianos!
Yes, and these are not just normal pianos. These have been tampered with, untempered and prepared, something which would surely have delighted Johann Sebastian Bach and John Cage alike.
In 2017, pupils from Ådnamarka school composed Bicyclophony, and took over Torgallmenningen with their music on and with wheels. This year, pupils from Loddefjord enter the main square during this annual collaboration between BIT20 Ensemble and the Bergen International Festival. The students take over Torgallmenningen with their unique compositions, leaving their creative mark on the street life of Bergen. Under the guidance of a team from BIT20, 50 students have composed their own music on these specially doctored pianos and will be unveiling their works in collaboration with musicians from the BIT20 Ensemble. The project is a part of Vi komponerer!, which is BIT20's composition programme in The Cultural Rucksack, a national programme for arts and culture for students in Norwegian primary and secondary schools.
