In this evening's lecture, we will take a closer look at the painting of the brig Haagina's sinking in 1814, based on mate Henrik O. Eide's own descriptions of the dramatic event. The painting and Eide's manuscript are preserved in the collections of the Maritime Museum and have today been brought out to shed light on an exciting part of Norwegian maritime history, where shipwrecks and accidents were part of everyday life. Historian Sarah Dahle Hermanstad from the Trondheim Maritime Museum takes us on a journey in Eide's footsteps along the Norwegian coast, giving us a small taste of what the museum's extensive collection has to offer.
