What happens to a society in the wake of a disaster?
In response to the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, playwright Toshiki Okada began exploring the Japanese society in the wake of the disaster, and the validity of fiction in such a society. In Time`s Journey Through a Room, Okada scrutinises the mental conflicts and emotions that well up in the days after the disaster has struck. People are not just confined to grief and unease; there might also be a sprinkling of hope that “things would get better” as a result.
Invisible mental anguish and pain are fused into a closely-knit relationship with the sound and space of the performance, designed by contemporary artist Tsuyoshi Hisakado. The fine-tuned media of words, body, sound, and space come together on the stage, and wash over the audience in a wave, confronting their own memories and experiences.
This is the first time that the Japanase theatre company, cheltfisch visits Norway, and we are proud to host this exclusive Nordic premiere!
