To a Nordic Princess

Scandinavian love in Grieg's home.
9 August 1928 pianist and composer Percy Grainger played for a full house in Hollywood Bowl. At the end of the concert he gave the first performance of To a Nordic Princess. This was his bridal song to his beloved Swedish-born Ella Viola Ström and they married on the stage before an audience of 20.000.
Violist Ellen Nisbeth and pianist Bengt Forsberg, both Swedes, perform a programme centred on the international star who in Norway is especially known for his recording of Grieg's piano concerto in A minor.
'Grainger was enthusiastic about Scandinavia and befriended Edvard Grieg and others. It is amazing to think about the differences between the enormously famous Grainger, dressed in his own designed clothes amongst stars like Duke Ellington and George Gershwin, and the man hiking with Edvard Grieg in the mountains and sitting in front of Grieg's piano in his wooden house. Amongst his own composer rating system, you find Bach at the top, Duke Ellington, Frederick Delius and himself in 9th place,' says Ellen Nisbeth.
At this concert we will acquaint ourselves with Percy Grainger, surrounded by his friends.
