Trondheimsolistene Peer Gynt/Lååje

It was always Ranghild Hemsing’s dream to reimagine Grieg’s touchstone work Peer Gynt for the distinctive sound of the Hardanger fiddle – the indigenous Norwegian folk instrument that influenced the composer.

Peer Gynt’s most famous movement – Morning Mood – actually borrows the notes of the Hardanger fiddle’s underlying strings for its memorably main tune.

The more Hemsing delved into the material and roots of Grieg’s Peer Gynt, the more the possibilities for reinvention, discovery and connection to folk traditions widened. In collaboration with arranger Tormod Tvete and the distinctive sound of The Trondheim Soloists, Hemsing comes to Bergen to guide you on a different path through Grieg’s work, one that returns to the source of the music and connects with indigenous traditions including the Sámi joik in discovering new landscapes within this touchstone work. Experience this perfect combination of tradition and renewal when Hemsing, The Trondheim Soloists and joik singer Marja Mortensson bring their Peer Gynt to the Grieg Hall.
