Roseslottet invites you to intimate and atmospheric concerts in the warm "Storstue" at Roseslottet.
On this evening – November 20th – you'll get up close with OTIUM!
The quartet OTIUM blossomed in the spring of 2024. All four members have extensive experience as soloists and chamber musicians, both in Norway and abroad, and from holding leading positions in various orchestras. Now, they aim to spread the joys of the string quartet to both new and seasoned audiences.
The name OTIUM refers to a sanctuary where the ensemble chooses music based on their own desires and passions.
The harmony and range offered by two violins, a viola, and a cello make the string quartet the jewel of chamber music! Joseph Haydn – Mozart's role model – invented the quartet form back in the 1780s. Since then, the world's greatest composers have added their finest pieces to the repertoire, in varying degrees of order and chaos.
The musicians are excited to perform in close proximity to the audience. "Ideally, we'd like to brush against them with our bows!" says OTIUM. They want to share their favorite music in a friendly atmosphere, perhaps during a good meal, just as it was when the first string quartets came into being. They will serve up musical delicacies like a multi-course gourmet meal: with great variety and in suitably small portions. The respect for the ingredients remains intact, while OTIUM dares to present parts of larger works, allowing them to be experienced as independent, harmonious morsels.
