Uriah Heep - The Magician’s Farewell

With Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull gone, Deep Purple, Yes and Uriah Heep remain the great British giants of progressive hard rock. Ever since their debut album Very ‘Eavy, Very ‘Umble (1970), Uriah Heep have been among the pioneers who shaped heavy rock, alongside Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin.

The band had their big breakthrough in the 70s with classics such as Demons and Wizards, The Magician’s Birthday and Sweet Freedom. The albums went gold in the US and established Heep as one of the most touring rock bands of the decade. They became known for their vocal harmonies – so unique that they were called “The Beach Boys of Heavy Metal” – and for the combination of Hammond organ and Mick Box’s characteristic wah-wah guitar.

Their success was not stopped by frequent line-up changes. After a period of decline in the late 70s, they made a strong comeback with Abominog in 1982, an album that put Heep back on the American charts in the midst of the wave of new British heavy metal. In the 80s, they also made history as the first Western rock band to play in Moscow – in front of 180,000 people in 1987.

Since then, Uriah Heep has been a global touring band, with particular success in Germany, Scandinavia, Japan, Eastern Europe and Russia. They have released 25 studio albums and sold over 40 million records, of which 36 million outside the United States – a clear sign of their international success. The most stable phase in the band's history began in the late 80s, when keyboardist Phil Lanzon and vocalist Bernie Shaw joined. Together with Mick Box, the band's founder and guitarist, they formed the core of Uriah Heep for more than three decades. During this period, they not only delivered strong concerts, but also new and relevant material, including the albums Wake the Sleeper, Into the Wild, Outsider and Living the Dream (2018).

Now, over 50 years after their start, Uriah Heep is facing their big farewell tour. After inspiring generations of rock bands – from Queen to Ozzy Osbourne – they are finally saying goodbye to their audience. The tour marks the end of an adventure that began in 1969, but also a celebration of a band that has managed the impossible: to remain vital, creative and touring through five decades. With classics such as “Easy Livin’”, “July Morning” and “Gypsy” on the repertoire, the farewell tour will be a last opportunity to experience Uriah Heep – one of the most influential names in the history of hard rock.

In Norway, they can be experienced for the last time at Oslo Konserthus, Stavanger Konserthus, Grieghallen in Bergen and Olavshallen in Trondheim.
