Varangerfestivalen. Vadsø

Varangerfestivalen is the largest international jazz festival in Northern Norway. This year held for the 30rd time in Vadsø - from Wednesday the 8 to Sunday the 12 of august.  The town of Vadsø with appr. 6000 inhabitants is beautifully located on the north side of the Varanger fjord and the festival is made possible every year in August with the help of hundreds of enthusiastic dedicated volunteers.

Last year, over 6,000 people visited the festival in the course of four hectic days.  Artistic director Kjell Magne Stålsett states: "A music festival with mainly jazz artists here in the heart of the eastern part of Finnmark will reflect the exciting area we live in," he says. "Russian, Finnish, Swedish and Saami musicians are very important festival artists as well as Norwegian and European performers."

This year's 30-year anniversary festival include Mari Boine, Vamp with Eivør Pálsdóttir, Marius Neset, Dee Dee Bridgewater and the Norrbotten Big Band, Farmers Market, Niko Valkeapää, Terje Rypdal Legacy. BigBang, Ensemble Denada, Iro Haarla Quintet, Amund Maarud, Baskery, Dhruv, Violet Road, Bushman's Revenge, and Hallgeir Pedersen
