Wednesday debate: Peasant uprising

Get tickets here
Food is becoming more expensive, farms are closing down and farmers are getting less and less for their work. How are we going to secure the future food supply? What power do farmers and food producers have over wholesalers and food chains? Some claim that the few grocery chains in Norway mean that the grocery chains have almost a monopoly. Is that true? If so, what does that do to the farmer's bargaining power? In Norway, we have a self-displacement rate of 46%. Is that high enough, and what do Norwegian farmers need in the future for us to increase self-sufficiency when there are fewer farmers every day? With an increasing focus on efficiency and sustainability, Norwegian farmers must do more and faster in the coming years - but who will implement the changes if there are no more farmers?

With us to discuss this we have:

Anders Nordstad, social economist

Lars Haltbrekken, member of parliament from SV
