15 and 16 September, Norwegian Opera & Ballet: The greatest sound poem of the 20th century

Ursonate (Primeval Sonata), written by the German dadaist and exile artist Kurt Schwitters (1887–1948), has been called the greatest sound poem of the 20th century. The work was completed in 1932 and consists of four parts, like a classical symphony. It consists of vocal sounds and a weird, foreign language. Ursonate is now widely recognized as a masterpiece

For this year's edition of Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, the South-African artist William Kentridge brings his Performa 2017 production of Ursonate to the Opera. His hour-long version is a very physical interpretation of the works, which includes a lot of bodily movement and a collection of projected images that complement and comment the text.
