Woman, know your body
Teater Manu invites you into a universe where the female body takes center stage. Here, humour meets gravity, knowledge intertwines with myth, and everyday experiences stand alongside life’s bigger questions.
The performance moves through the many phases of life: from the curiosity of childhood to puberty and menstruation, from sexuality and orgasm to childbirth, menopause, and old age. But along the way, it becomes much more than a list of facts – taboos are challenged, and hidden stories are brought into the light.
With a tilted perspective, powerful imagery, and a playful, sensuous expression, the performance creates a space for laughter, reflection, and recognition. Woman, Know Your Body is a production that dares to ask the questions many avoid – giving the audience a sense of freedom, strength, and solidarity.
This is a bold and deeply human theatrical experience – full of humour, mystery, and warmth.
The book Kvind e, kend din krop (Woman, Know Your Body) was published in 1975, written by a collective of Danish feminists. It quickly earned the label “the feminist bible” and was seen as a revolutionary call for women’s self-worth and self-respect. Over the 50 years since its publication, the work has gained near-iconic status. Kamilla Wargo Brekling’s stage adaptation has been performed on countless stages since 2011. As Teater Manu now presents the production in Norwegian Sign Language, it arrives in a version that brings the book’s message into our current time.
This is the first time the production is translated into Norwegian Sign Language.
